How to Create an Impactful Mission Template [ + 12 Amazing Mission Slides For You]
Every business spends a lot of time and efforts to craft their mission statement and mission points. These points in nutshell define your company and its purpose. In a few words, it answers all important questions like your primary service or function, your target market, competitive strengths, goals, and guiding philosophy.
This article is not about writing your business mission; you must already have crafted the best lines after a lot of brainstorming and introspection. Instead, this article is about presenting your mission before the audience with impact- a one that evokes a firm nod from the audience.
Beware if you put your mission text as bullet points on a blank slide. If you do that, then no matter how beautiful the words are, it will look ugly and elicit a barely audible meh.
How do you showcase your mission slide? Bullet points? No more. Create an impactful mission template that is as inspiring as your words. Also, since a mission slide is an essential part of every company introduction presentation and comes right after the Agenda slide and About Us slide, it has to be engaging and convincing. Let’s make it so:

Steps to Create a Mission PowerPoint Template
Step 1- Choose a High Quality Image (Abstract or Industry Relevant)
Images are more memorable than text. Not only do they add color and life to your blank slide but set the tone for your content and reinforce the message. Be choosy while choosing images. Don’t settle for the first image you see on your stock photo website; dig deeper to find the most striking photo. Even if you have to spend a few pennies, do that without any second thought.
But which image to choose? Ideally, the image your industry or business function represents. If for some reason, you have trouble in finding a good image of your industry, choose an abstract image like that of a rocket launch. This will create a powerful impression too, provided the image is high quality.

Let’s say you offer recruitment solutions to other companies and your mission is to provide the most innovative talent pool to others. Choose an image that does not look staged but is as natural as people walking on a street like the one below.
As you can see, we have covered the complete slide canvas with the image. How do we place our mission points? That brings us to step 2.
Step 2- Add a Transparent Layer over the Image
To make our text legible, we’ll add a transparent layer over the image. This is very simple.
- Go to the Insert tab on the PowerPoint Ribbon
- Open the Shapes menu
- Choose the Rectangle shape and add it over the full image
- Once you have added the rectangle over the slide, right click on it and click Format Shape
- A Format Shape window will open on the right
- Choose black as the Solid Fill Color and give it a 15% (depending on your requirement) Transparency (see the screenshot below)
- Choose the No line option from the Line menu
Step 3- Add a Mission Box
To make the mission stand out, let’s add another design element here- a box. We won’t be choosing a rectangle this time but a Parallelogram from the Shapes menu.

We used the Turquoise color for the Mission box and gave it a 45% Transparency by following the steps — Right click on shape > Format Shape > Solid Fill- Turquoise > Transparency- 45% > No line.
We suggest you use your branding colors to highlight this box. If you want to use this shade of turquoise, use the Eyedropper tool (open the Color menu and you’ll find Eyedropper there). Place the eyedropper on the turquoise used in the image and your box will be rendered in the same color.
Step 4- Add Your Content
Now place your points in the mission box. We won’t dump the text but design it to create a strong impression. Basically, we’ll be doing these 3 things in the mission box:
- Use a large font size for the slide heading to catch audience’s attention
- Add a thin rectangular strip to separate the heading and body content- Go to the Shapes menu again (sorry for sending you there again and again but we have to use this great feature for adding subtle but powerful design elements). Choose the rectangle shape and place it below the heading as a strip. Use your branding color in the line to reinforce your signature colors.
- Place the body text below this line. If you have three points, put each point under a separate text box.
As you can see in the above image, we have highlighted the main service (recruitment solutions) with a different color so that even if the reader just glances at the content, the main point is delivered.
Step 5 (Optional)- Add an Icon
To make the design look modern, we can add an icon (small visual representation of the concept to reinforce the message). For a mission slide, the ideal icon is a rocket. But since that is difficult to create, we can add a simple Target icon. Before we create the target board icon, let’s add 2 design elements to the slide:
- Insert a Circle from the Shapes menu
- Insert a Rectangular strip below the circle
Format the two shapes and fill it with the same color to make the two shapes appear as a single object. The shape looks like a guidepost and can be replicated across all slides. We will add the icon in this guidepost to complete our mission slide template.
How to Create Target Board Icon: Basically, the icon comprises 3 concentric circles and four rectangle shapes distributed equally around the slide. You can use this icon for your target slides too. Learn to create an impressive dartboard diagram here.
