Battling Coronavirus: Dumbledore’s Wise Message Guides Us in These Dark Times

Dark times lie ahead of us and there will be a time when we must choose between what is easy and what is right. — Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

These are indeed dark times. The viral spread of coronavirus across more than 180+ countries has halted everyone in its tracks. Fear has clouded our vision. Insecurity has made its home inside everyone’s mind. The word “Coronavirus” now brings to mind images of masks, death, empty streets and thoughts of panic and lockdown.

It is easy to spread rumors in these times. It is even easier to get scared by news of more deaths and the rise of cases in your country or city.

But what is right is to stay strong and take every precaution that has been advised by the health department. We all know that washing hands, staying inside home, social distancing is the right thing to do. The best thing that we can do to help in these unprecedented times right now is to keep ourselves safe. The next best thing we can do is to spread the message of hope, love and solidarity. Together, we can conquer over fear and the virus.

Another wise quote from Dumbledore guides our way in these unsettling times:

“Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”

Let’s turn on the light of knowledge and hope. Here are some minimalist designs that you can share with your friends, countrymen, and the world to show that you won’t bow to fear and Coronavirus:

Message #1- Practice Social Distancing, Not Emotional

Yes, distancing is a must but only physically. Through social media, we must support and pray for all patients who have tested positive for Covid-19. The families and friends of these patients are going through the most difficult times. Let them know their social isolation is not the same as emotional isolation.

Message #4- Introspection, Not Further Infection

When you can’t go outside, go inside. Spend time with yourself — it can’t be that bad. Read a book, watch Netflix, do exercise at home and meditate. Learn to enjoy your own company. Being alone and lonely are two different things. Even if you are alone, you can still make the best use of your time.

We have to face this challenge by taking all precautions. Google’s “DO THE FIVE. Help stop coronavirus” is encouraging people to do the following — 1. HANDS — Wash them often, 2. ELBOW — Cough into it, 3. FACE — Don’t touch it, 4. SPACE — Keep safe distance, and 5. FEEL sick? Stay home. Let’s not take these 5 precautions lightly.

Message #7- Pride Comes Before the Fall — Stay Humble

Man may be the most powerful creature on Earth but such crises bring us to face the reality that pride of any kind is foolishness. A tiny virus has brought the entire world to a standstill. Coronavirus has humbled the mighty accomplishments of man. Let us stay humble and love each being on earth to avoid retribution in future.

Message #8- Who’s Fault Is It?

It’s foolish to blame a virus for heaping so much misery upon this world. The illustration below reminds us to step back and see that the fault somewhere lies with us. A new article by the Guardian suggests that it is the destruction of biodiversity by mankind that creates the conditions for new viruses and diseases to arise, be it Ebola, Sars, bird flu, or the new Covid-19. But will we learn a lesson?

Message 9- Love Will Conquer All, Including Corona

The only silver lining in tragedies is that it brings the entire world on one platform as fellow human beings. Everyone is heartbroken to hear the stories of Wuhan, Italy, Iran, US, and hundred other countries. We are praying for the well-being of one and all, irrespective of race, religion, or ethnicity. This love will help us conquer all threats, including corona.

Message #10- Divided by Fear, United by Hope

Never has fear mongering raised its ugly head like it has today. We have sealed our borders and even cities within. But we are still united by hope and prayers.
